there you go vin knew id got one somewhere,

 

 

NICE ONE...that looks like one of the copies of the original design...a bit more hand made,and the barrel looks bigger than the one im talking about...one of my old mates said it was a "waterloo cup slip toggle."

 

who knows but were definately on the right lines here...if your not using it..gerrit stripped down so we can have a look at how it works and maybe get someone to make us a few new ones.

bought it about 20 years a go from a shooting news advert ,used it a couple of times found it a bit bulky ,went back to rope. put it back in bag and put it away , ill see how its made up , its a quality bit of leather work though . cheers

Ive had a couple of toggle slips, still got one in the shed actually but prefer the Strong Stuff slip now for ease of use. Had dogs just pull out of the toggle slips when watching another dog run which just spoils things

 

I have heard strong stuff mentioned before what do they look like and where would i get one please

Mine are nothing fancy mate! No great mystery to them at all.

 

 

They are a length of webbing 1" wide, about 5 foot long, with a loop in each end, put it through the dogs collar, hold both loops, then let 1 go, dead simple.

hello all

 

 

Anyone have any slip lead designs from old days..The only ones i seem to be able to find are straps that thread through collar and let go etc etc..or the old metal catch type things bit like scissor type clip,they are clunky and noisy also.

 

Is there any other types to buy nowadays ?

i used to have one with a brass type barrel with a pin on spring inside centre of barrel and all that was attached to lead and collar..slipped dog in total silence and retained collar...(i could draw a diagram,but it would look like kids drawing)

ive seen similar types with square clips made of metal etc etc...

anyone know what im talking about..? or where to get one of these type of leads ?

vin I have a single one with a brass barrel that takes a split pin on a thread,also a double set that are around -100 years old, they were known as Altcar slip leads ,after the famous running ground of the Waterloo Cup,I used the brass one a few times ,but found it too clumsy ,especially for lamping ,where you would be fiddling around trying to locate the pin into the barrel. Now I use a lead with the clip cut off threaded through the dogs collar.I tried twine but a lead is kinder to the hands ,especially if you have a "puller ""on the other end.A simple method is a rope with a loop for the hand and a small loop further down the rope ,make a noose around the dog's neck and pass it back through the small loop ,just let go of the slack when required,it works fine.I prefer the colar and lead I use, as it is kinder to the dogs neck as well as my hand.Inan.

as for this well it was never used by ronnie mills,it was never used at the waterloo cup,in fact its never been used at all its a bit dusty but if you want it it would cost £200 plus why because you just cant get them now

Thanks for the input Nrat...i love that double slip..work of art that is...but the toggle slip are using them clanky clunky clips that make a load of noise when the dog is slipped...we used to wrap rubber band around them to try and stop them rattling...but them it was harder to release them..all good fun.

 

Im still inclined to go with the Altcar Waterloo cup slip that has just been mentioned by "inan" and looks a little similar to the copy version that "Youth" has posted pics of...

i had my mate emptying all his old boxes in the shed looking for my old slip lead that he borrowed 20 yrs ago...he,s bloody got it somewhere,but cant find it...im gutted.
