lorelei0922 2
And a pretty day we had too!! We lucked upon some great permission that we just had to try out one last day, my husband works for the water board and got permission to ferret at one of the treatment works... We also have finally just picked up a brand new Mk3M set and wanted to see how it worked for us.. a friend's lad is 15 and getting in a bit of trouble these days.. spending more time supervised and without his mates is the plan at the moment so we snagged him along for an extra pair of hands... killed his first rabbit, chased a rabbit across the site when he escaped his hands and got a bit of a bunny bug asking to come along again and come help handle the kits this spring... Down here in Devon we usually end up with nasty hedge work most of the year and these were nice ground burries.. so we had to give it a go.. there is a bank of backfill against a huge water tank that is riddled with rabbit so we popped along and got stuck in... everything went really well .. till my knee slipped on a steep bit of bank as i was setting a net and i slid down the embankement... bare arms through a very young patch of stinging nettle.. OMG was i in misery last night!!! fingertips to my shoulders swollen up and screaming!! put two albino jills through the first set and they got down to business a lil while later we had 3 bolted into the purse nets and quickly dispatched... the girls popped their noses out a couple times but then it went quiet for a while... fearing they had stumbled into a nest (very possible obviously this time of year) we sat down to wait for a lil while.. scanning the holes for signs of ferret or rabbit.. After about 15 min or so... two very young bunnies popped into a couple nets followed by both jills... and we decided to move down the bank to another set and see how the boys got on... Set up further down and gave the whole hob a shot.. always a keen hunter he disapeared quick like and stayed gone for about 20 min or so ... then bam... into the net ...nice sized doe..... he bolted another and finally a third.. so a decent couple of hours in the morning and we were on our way home for lunch... with 7 large does and a couple babies... gotta keep the freezer full with kits expected in a lil while...
