SportingShooter 0
What information are you looking for and for what purpose? Need a little more detail Quote Link to post
the Verminator 0
the gauage is determined by how many balls of lead can be roled into equal sized balls and fitted into a shot gun barrel, i.e. 20 bore = 20 equal sized balls. hope this helps a bit Quote Link to post
markdog 18
its not just how many can fit in the barrels because obviously shorter barrels would hold less, bore is determined by how many balls of lead equal to the barrels diameter could be rolled out of 1lb of lead, Quote Link to post
humperdingle 0
Let's make it a bit simpler: Take a 1lb chunk of lead. Take 1/12th of it, roll it into a ball, and that's a 12 gauge. Take 1/20th of it, roll it into a ball, and that's a 20 gauge. And so on. Filling up a shotgun barrel with balls of lead is nothing to do with it, neither is the length of the barrel... 10g 0.78" (19.7 mm) 12g 0.73" (18.5 mm) 16g 0.66" (16.8 mm) 20g 0.62" (15.6 mm) 28g 0.55" (14.0 mm) Edited March 13, 2009 by humperdingle Quote Link to post
markdog 18
thats basically what i said but you put it better i know the length of the barrels have nothing to do with it, was just saying others where wrong saying its how many balls of lead fit in barrels because barrel length would affect this formula. I said 12balls of lead out of 1lb of lead equals 12bore Quote Link to post
