tom1cameron 1
I've been thinking for a while about the potential merits of deliberately bleeding shot waterfowl and game. I keep forgetting to try it and yet I think I can tell the difference at the table when a duck has had teh chance to bleed versus not being bled. I shoot and eat a lot of woodpigeon, love it! Yesterday I used my recently serviced air rifle to bag my first AR quarry in several years. It was a woodie. I aimed for the neck/lower head area and I hit the neck. The bird flapped once and died. On inspection I hit the jugular, not sure if I actually hit the neck. Anyway I hung the bird up quickly and plucked away the feathers from the wound to allow it to bleed. It didn't have produce a lot of blood! Anyway when it came to eating and the table the flesh was so much lighter in colour and despite being nice and rare, there was much less blood on the plate. Has anyone else tried experiments with bleeding wild duck or goose, game or pigeon? T
