Guest vin
hello there all Please don,t think of me as daft, but i hav,nt bought a lamp for years..i made the last one and it done me well for many years..my mate gave me some 1 million candle power jobby a few years ago...and i have not had the need to buy one. its time to move into 20th centuary so im told... so my question is... what lamp do you use for lamping ? i have been told that the new LED torches are better than the old lamps i used.. i looked on YOUTUBE and theres loads of LED and HID torches .. some of them looked very interesting to me...especially the ones that can be made yourself, from an old maglite or somethong similar,a new LED superbright bulb and bigger battery and this guy quoted 2 hours at around 500-700 lumins of bright spot.. this could be in the back pocket and no problems when out for a mooch with the pooch . anyone get my idea here..? anyone using any of this type of technology ? im thinking little tiny torch in back pocket but capable of doing a bit of lamping ... ive seen a few modified examples so far that look perfect for the job to me..but thought i would ask the panel of experts around here 1st. all the best chaps. vin. Guest vin
try these http://www.xenontorch.com/ http://www.nightsearcher.co.uk/PRODUCTS/ta...GB/Default.aspx http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15692 http://www.shop4torches.co.uk/ http://www.shop4torches.co.uk/acatalog/Sur...D_LED_Torch.php theres a few links to torch sites and torches that caught my eye.. i was advised that a Fenix TK11 R2 with 18650 batteries would be a [bANNED TEXT] little basic set up..im told would give a few of the old 1,000,000 candle power lamps a run for the money. theres a newer Fenix TK40 out at the end of next month that is looking to be the one for me..something like 600-700 lumes and under a £100.. have a look around and let me know if you spot anything better.. if you want to spend thousands of pounds thers a few military ones etc etc and one called the led lenser x21 ,thats a beast of a torch for around 200 pounds..theres lots to look at and lifes to short..so if anyone else knows about these items and has used them..please let me know. all the best vin Edited February 26, 2009 by vin Quote Link to post
Guest vin
any one know anything yet...what about a HID conversion kit on a lamp that your already using ? has anyone done anything to customise there own lamp for the job in hand. when i was young we made our own lamps from old car spotlamps etc etc.. my mate has made his own from a few different old lamp kits and with lots of plastic glue but it does work and it very powerfull with a simple halogen bulb..so iwas wondering if anyone had built a beast of a lamp ? all the best vin Quote Link to post
glamour 1
£3,244 for a torch is insane!! Quote Link to post
Guest vin
im still working on it chaps... ive found a nice chap who actually builds them up from parts into any design or spec required.... so im going to go meet up with him and show him what i after..then im gonna make one. when ive finished i might even be able to set up a little side-line outlet for more of these units etc etc. from what ive seen so far..most of the really powerfull LEDS and HID have a lot of spread on the beams and way too much flood.(no good for mooching). but theres a few differant lens configurations to try out yet..so im pretty sure when ive finished..you lot are gonna be blown away! MY requirement list is... 1. something that easily fits in pocket and is not heavy. 2. good tight spot at 50-75 yrds with very little over spread etc etc. 3. batteries that can last at least an hour or more..and be easily changed for spares very quickly.(rechargables). 4.. option to change lens and bulbs when further developments come along in this field. 5. got to be cheap..under £100 all complete. its a long list ..but its possible im sure..subscribe to this thread and keep checking.. i will keep you all up to date with what I learn. if theres any other suggestions for the list of requirements for the perfect lamp..... please add them to the list and i will keep at it until i have created the ultimate mooching/poaching pocket lamp. could do with a name for it also. all the best everyone vin Edited March 2, 2009 by vin Quote Link to post
Paid 935
I'm after something striker size, not fussed about torch size, just think a striker casing fitted with high inteserty leds would be good. The battery would go a lot longer, and the lamp casing would sort the beam out. I dont have a while to try putting something together, as my blitz got confiscated on friday lol. SMOGGY 34
Vin, have you looked at ledlenser p7, a part from the changing of the lens it should fit your requirements and at around £45-50 you wont go far wrong Quote Link to post

( im skint so freebies would be nice ). i think i might start a new thread for all this and look into building a lamp for everyone and every situation. cheeers vin Quote Link to post
