After a post ( http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=88094 ) i'm asking fellow HMR owners how often they clean thier rifles.

I've spoken to many RFD's and they have all told me different things! :o

So ideally 'long time' users of HMR's will give the best advice but i'm open to anyone who has guidance on this poll.

Thank You for your time :gunsmilie:

I think you will get a vast number of different responses.

Bear in mind everyone has their own view, everyone uses the gun differently and cleans it differently.

The HMR is a tiny bore and needs top quality rods/tools and chemicals and the greatest of care must be excercised to clean it comprehensively and sympathetically. And don't forget the Moderator as well!!

For good consistant shooting it is vital to keep the bore/rifling/crown (and all the other bits) clear of all fouling....that means cleaning!! CAREFULLY, thoroughly and regularly!!! :thumbs:

All makes perfect sense Deker, however, it seems that after evey clean the zero needs resetting, its costing me £4 after every clean. i know that it's common that after cleaning the groups will open up for between 4-10 rounds, but after putting 10 rounds through it after the clean the zero is different.

If half the people who have answered the above poll only clean the bore after the groups open up, it does seem that its a personal prefference.

Also got told today that the hmr will fire better when dirty, after 40rounds???

I'm thinking that every 100 rounds, the bore will get a good clean and only time will tell.

Cheers

Lots of different responses and lots of different reasons for it, one of the main reasons it sometimes takes a few shots to get back to zero is too much oil left in the barrel, cleaners not properly removed from barrel, barrel unevenly cleaned, crown forgotten/debris left in rifling, action/breech ignored, etc...its nothing to do with getting the barrel dirty to shoot straight..if you stop to think about it that is daft, clean barrels shoot straight, dirty ones don't shoot as straight!!

This is not a criticism of anyone, but it is down to how you clean your gun, and at what point you previously zeroed the gun!! :thumbs:

Cleaning is a chore which takes time, too many people take short cuts, often in all innocence believing they are cleaning, half a job can cause more problems..like taking 30-40 shots to get back to anything close to a zero, that should sound alarm bells to anyone!!!!!!!

With all due respect ask any TOP target shooter how many hours they spend cleaning and pampering their tools and how FEW shots it takes to get back to zero!! Unfortunately I know...I spent years doing it!! :thumbs:

ATB!! :thumbs::thumbs:
