Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Went down to Martins place for a stalk on Tuesday just gone .He took me to a new place of his locally and what a cracking spot it is .A wind sheltered dingle or dell if you like ,is the centre of this piece of land and we stalked towards it ,hoping to see a deer on the fringes of the bramble patches .The snow was still hanging about here so expectations wernt very high and sure enough the deer wernt on the low ground .The land rises up to a wooded area and Martin saw a doe as we approached the tops .It wasnt stopping, being spooked by us i guess ,so we headed back .Near the first gate we came through we saw a fox on the opposite bank but not on Martins land .I squeaked and it looked in our direction for a second and then came running like a dog .It had to come down a banking to a wooded stream and went out of sight for a while .It was Martin who saw it poke its head above the stream bank and i shot it at about 60-70 yards .Went down and found a very thin vixen with a broken back leg that wasnt evident when she ran to us . The last pic shows where she appeared from ,centre pic . Went from here to the spot where Martin had his munty but despite seeing a pair at extreme range ,we never got one . Again ,ideal munty location with plenty of low cover and open rides .I saw another fox in a scrub patch as we descended to the truck but even though it appeared to fly in to start with ,we never saw it again .Probably came in close underneath us and got the wind but who knows .
