took my terrier and lurcher out today for a mooch, got a couple of rabbits and my lurcher coursed a hare but once again it was about 200 yrds off and she isnt the quickest dog so she lost it. this got me thinking, i no saluki hybrids are supposed to be the best for competition coursing but has anyone ever owned or see run a proper lurcher not a longdog(sight hound x sighthound) e.g traditional collie or terrier based lurcher, be entered into a hare coursing cup like the forley cup and do well. just interested to find out. i mean in my opinion a proper working collie has loads of stamina. the farm i used to work at the collie used to follow the farmer by the side of his tractor all day and still round sheep on massive fields with huge flocks. i would class that as asmuch stamina as a saluki running flat out for 6 mins on the fens

different kind of stamina that mate. same as a pit bull...they can fight for a long time but its not coursing stanima. salukis know when to turn on the presure and when to lay back a little. mine only runs flat out when he needs to if you know what i mean. im not saying that non-saluki lurchers carnt course hares but it really is horses for courses. cheers.

i dunno, even though a pitbull may not have the speed he will run the tread for hours

I know someone that has two and they are hare machines but look too strong for that kind of thing .. The only problem is they push too fecking hard im talking injurd 50 percent of the time but are proberbly the best crossed ive seen so far.. but i am very interested in the saluki stanima as many people i know swear by bulls , or is it i have too small areas where im from..

as i say the saluki is very new to me so am interested i was led too beleive they can keep going and going with total control for longer, i have been brought up on the pit bull cross well its the breed that has fasinated me for an awfull long time but the get smashed up they put 200 percent into everything and dont stop at all which means serious injurys, but a truely magnificent breed if bred right . But saluki is so new too me but id love to know
