gazguildford 0 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 i am soon applying for a shotgun cert i have a gun safe fixed to a load bearing wall in my bedroom but would like to move it to the attick i live in a semi detached with sloped roof at either side so i was wondering if the chimney wall down the center would be a suitable posistion or is the cabinet best left where it is? any advice welcome thanks gaz Quote Link to post

Toka 10 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 if you don`t have to move it i would not attic can get cold and you have to go up there all the time to get the guntoo much hassle i think hi, just sent my paperwork off for my renewal and there was a letter from the police force stating that if i was to site the gun cabinet in the attic, due to HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS i would need a permanently attached drop down ladder [or similar], a floord area next to the safe and a permanent light source up there....!!!????? not too sure if this is the same with all forces but has anyone argued their case, i didnt know h&s regulations would come into your own personal dwelling...unless they are saying that an feo wouldnt be allowed to go into an attic to check on a safe that didnt have these things also...anyone got any comments.... cyclonebri1 8 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Share Posted February 11, 2009 My cabinet is in the loft, during the 8 years I gave up shooting I keep a dectivated hammer gun in there, never opened the cabinet as I had forgotten it was in there. Still in perfect condition when I found it. I keep my guns in thier fleecy sleeves in the cabinet ready to go. Asc the temp up there is roughly the same as outside there is no condensation issue when out and about. My FEO didn't say anything and had to get up a non fixed but pucka extened step set to view. I do have power. But I wouldn't do it again, it's just too much dam hassle getting the steps out etc and always the risk of falling trough the unboarded bits of the loft or down the hole itself. If you have enough space I favour placing it in and bolting it through a wardobe to a masonary wall, would be easy in my case as it's a bungalow. Quote Link to post
