Guest Countryboyo Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 hi lads i was just wondering if you have any tips on shooting magpies, we killed two in a drive by at the weekend but i find the ones around my house very wairy. i used to have a larsen trap and culled loads that way but im just wondering is there a way of attractimg them around to get a good shot at them? maybe plastic magpie? also id like to do the same with crows?? advice greatly appreciated. aaronpigeonplucker 32 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 buy a plastic predator (hawk, owl, buzzard ect) and put it in your garden this will atract magpies as they mob predatory birds. look on hawking and falconry on this forum. you will see how the birds put their wings out to protect there kill. or scattr bread around your garden. pesonbally i don't shoot magpies because i can't eat them! PeakOil 352 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Share Posted February 5, 2009 If you have a cat/dog and leave its feed bowl outside your magpies may be used to visiting it for a quick snack. I leave ours out at the weekend with the window of the back room open (so I can hear the magpies and shoot out of it.) Leave the curtains closed with a small gap in the middle. When you hear the magpie calling quirtly get in position and wait for them coming down to look for a free meal. Then reload incase another one arrives to go mad at the dead bird. Quote Link to post
