my recipe for whitting

A nice easy one to start with.

2lb potatoes

2lb Whiting fillets (any white fish or salmon will do.)

Eggs

Onion (optional)

mixed herbs

salt

pepper

plain flour

1 bottle of beer

cooking oils

1 peel and wash potatoes and then boil them in salted water for 20 mins

2 Fillet and de-bone whiting, place fish in some water and boil for apprx 7 mins

3 mash potatoes and leave to cool

4 Once fish is done, de skin it and make sure all the bones are gone..This is the most time consuming part but is worth doing well.

5 Add fish to the potatoes, then add finely diced onion, 1 or 2 eggs, salt, pepper, herbs and mash the living shyte out of it.

6 Form the mixture into patties

How to prepare batter

1 Seive roughly 1/2 a bag of plain flour into a bowl and season with salt and pepper if required.

2 Slowly mix in half your beer until it has a custard like consistancy

7 Lightly flour, then dip and coat patties in batter mix and then lightly fry in enough oil to cover. Cook until golden brown coloured.

I'll give that a go next time I can be bothered to get the fishing kit out and drag my sorry ass fishing! :D I like a good bit of whiting, and that's all you seem to catch round here when there's an easterly wind blowing. If you can keep your bait out long enough without the tiny little whiting getting to it first! :wallbash::laugh::thumbs:
