kingfisher 0
i just want to remind you all about the importance of being careful when on the river bank i was fishing one of my favourite stretches of the erewash when i tried to get a little closer to the water and i slipped on the mud and slid down into the water, luckily only my feet got wet and the river was small but had it been the trent things could of been very different. then about half hour later i was fishing a different swim, i got snagged up and started to pull hard to release my line when i looked up and saw power lines about 15 ft behind me. needless to say i stopped doing what i was doing and proceeded in a safer mannor but this got me thinking that it doesnt hurt to remind people of the dangers of fishing flooded rivers by yourself stay safe and take care out there kiy Quote Link to post
droid 11
Good point kingfisher. I fell into a 6 foot swim years ago....middle of winter, can't swim... Were like a cat....clawed me way out and escaped with a wet leg, but could have been far worse.... Quote Link to post
markp76 0
Quick tip get ya self to pets at home and buy a screw in dog spike there only about £3.00 and tie about 15ft of rope to it, saved my arse a couple of times on a rising Trent with steep bangs and a load of heavy fishing gear on my back! Well worth it if you fish alone a lot like me. Quote Link to post

johnnyboy28 1
years ago on a cold winters morning ,i watched as my mate struggled to push his front rod rest in the ground in the edge of the lake. when i was ready to put my front bankstick in i too struggled then all of a sudden it just went really easy, over the top of it i went head first into the lake.It was shallow in the edge but dropped straight off into about 4ft of water.as you can imagine i was soaked and freezing wet everyone was laughing apart from me. Just goes to show you really have to be careful even doing the simple things Quote Link to post

fin and fur 2
A valid point on bankside safety, i also think it is worthwhile making sure that at least one person knows where you are going, and whilst i fully appreciate that fishing for many is best enjoyed as a solitary pursuit please make sure you have your mobile phone with you it could save your life one day Quote Link to post
