victor 10
hi all, me and a friend went lamping last night at dekan uni, and there are litterly minnions of rabbits there, but we only ever catch like 3, but as soon as the rabbits hear the dog slip or as soon as thay run, thay leg it soooo good and out run my dog. and my dog isnt slow or my mates isnt either, ive caught hare with my whippetxgrey and theas rabbits are not out running him, just turning him quicker than ive ever seen, but it's also realy open and thay can reach maximun speed, and tuyrn wilst my dog is just turning. Ever had a property with rabbits like this on it ? Quote Link to post

DIGGIT 6
hi vic there are alot of factors that may contribute to the dog not catching the rabbit, like the ground your running on if its to soft the dog beds down makeing him slower but the dog can turn faster, if its to hard the dog is running on top of the ground makeing him faster but this makes him slower in the turn and over shoots the rabbit. also a dogs size can play a big part in how it performs, if you are running a 30" dog at rabbits the dog has to stoop to pick it up there for cutting down its performance, smaller dogs don't need to stoop as much there for keeping performance up. also food can make a big difference, to much carbs and the dog will be good for short bursts runs, but will burn out quicker, to much protien and the dog will be able run for longer but lose that burst faster over the nights lamping. and last, try changing the coluer of your lamp, show the the rabbits somthing they have not seen befor because they sound lamp shy to me. hope this helps all the best diggit Edited January 24, 2009 by DIGGIT Quote Link to post
