jazz_11 5
Well yesterday me and a friend went put for a few hours, he recenlty bought a gun (bsa lightning xl) brand new with a scope and bag etc etc... he asked if we could zero his sites quick. so we went in the woods out of the wind and started firing at a paper target which i put up. I had a few shots at 30 yards to see how close it was..... it couldnt even hit the tree!!!! he was then shooting at 5-7 yards and he might hit the tree with one pellet adjust it in the right direction to get closer to the target and then he would fire again and he would miss the tree... the majority of pellets even when it was adjusted missed the tree.. out of approx 70 pellets and a hour wasted we gave up as it wasnt even close. i have set my scope and it only take 10 minutes and i do know how to do it i often have to do mine as i seem to bump it alot lol his scope was bushnell 4x32 i could it be that there was something wrong with the scope.. i advised him to get a slightly bigger scope something like a 3-9x40 or something cheers Edited January 19, 2009 by jazz_11 Quote Link to post
jamiethehunter 0
There are many things that could be happening here it could be the mounts are not secure enough and being a recoiling rifle they are moving. If the rifle has a silencer fitted check it's fitted correctly. Check the barrel is it locking up properly is there any sign of it being loose. These are just a few thought of the top of my head there are many more things that could be a fault and i'm sure there will be more replies suggesting them. Try a simple test get the gun in a fixed position fire a pellet into a piece of paper and then adjust the cross hairs to line up with the hole then fire another shot. The next shot should be close to the original hole if it's not then there is a serious problem with either the scope or the gun. Quote Link to post
mad al 146
It could be the scope, I had a hell of a job to zero one the other day and had similar problems to yours. What pellets were used? Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
accupellets. i think thats how you spell it anyway... Quote Link to post
mad al 146
accupellets. i think thats how you spell it anyway... OK, if you've a "workmate" or a suitable vice put the rifle in it and set up a target about 20m away and as already said, take a shot and see where it has hit, then take another shot at the target, have a look to see where this shot has hit, if nothing has moved and this shot is in as near to or in the same place as the first shot, then I'd say the rifle is fine, so now you can adjust the scope accordingly to zero it . If you still have a problem, do you have/or borrow another scope and try that one Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
strip the scope off the mounts and off the gun, swop front to back see if thats it... but asides from that it sounds well dodgey... you or he may have tweeked the tube a bit...sometimes they'll re zero after re seating, other times maybe not etc.. faililng that check the gun barrels not shitted up or got one of those designer lines up the rifling put there by your careing 'other' users...with nails etc lol. (loose stock screws..buggered spring... seal gone some where etc...or even just a mount pincing up where it shouldnt be.) added bad pellets are bad grouping and flyers... but yu should hit a tree at 7 yards with a brick n blind fold tbh... SEAN3513 7
make sure the scope is fitted in the correct orientation ( adjusters top and left), and as suggested scope mounts are secure also make sure the scope mount clamps are fitted the same way round as some have two sizes for different size rails. failing that have a blast on mad al,s spliff !!!!!! let us know how you get on. all the best sean Quote Link to post
