Holland 0
While picking up on a new shoot this weekend with one of my black labradors, I was asked by a lady picker up "what breed my dog was." Lookind down around her feet I observed her two dogs. These creatures were at least twice the width of my dog 4 inches shorter, 3 times the depth with a head the size of a bull dog's! I answered that my dog was a Labrador retriever, to which she laughed and explained that her dogs were kennel club breed standard Labradors. She went on to tell me that she was involved in a retriever club which organises working tests and field trials!! After doing some research, I discovered that according to the KC dogs like hers are the breed standard, more than this I found that working gundog clubs assocated with the KC have "keeping the breed standard" as one of their directives. I am aware of the differances between working and showing lines, but how can gundog clubs still encourge the breedind of these monsters? Quote Link to post
JPTfellterrier 65
my mate has a couple of kc labs as pets....they are the most un-sporty looking things i have seen in my life and they arnt fat, the build of them overall is very chunky Quote Link to post
spanielman2150 0
i believe that all working labradors should have a very slim build and should not look the slightest bit chunky personally i think that the kc labradors are a load of rubbish Quote Link to post
Little Butch 16
My Uncle breeds Working Labs and has done for 5 Generations now.. Breeds small (large enough to carry Geese etc) Dogs that are fit and they will run all day. Nothing like the Kc b*llocks! Butch Quote Link to post
jakeuk1 0
Look at what mess the so called 'breed standards' have done to the bulldog, mastiff, german shepards etc. the working cocker and springer spaniel are totally different dogs to the show types, which are dopey, stupid, have hair and ears thats too long. if your dog works well it is (in my opinion) worth more than any show type. i would remind the lady of the mess the kennel club is in regarding their breed standards! and they ruin good breeds with their narrow mindedness Quote Link to post
