training with the longnet

i honestly dont think there will be a problem getting a lurcher to work to the long net or gate net during the day aswell as at night.if you get that dog out regulary working with the nets i believe they will start to work around or with you and will soon pick it up what is required.if you can gain a partnership between you and your dog theres alot of things you can do imo it will require alot of experiance though.was out myself the other night with no lamp just letting my dog work the fields ,she had a couple of runs and if i had a few gate nets set i think we would have had dinner in our bag.

my lurcher (fly) is predominantly whippet x greyhound with a pinch of collie and deerhound.flys only done a little bit of work with the nets during daytime last season ,but she learns reasonably quick so i can see there being problems at first but hopefully she will click on.today i have just knitted one 20ft hemp and spun nylon gate net and a 10ft ish heavy spun nylon square meshed gate net just using up some old materials.so hopefully will start getting some use out of these, got a few small bridges hares regularly use so shall give it a go.

we never really trained them to hold the rabbits ,im sure it can be done but they would mouth the rabbit in the net but they started to do it less after we had told them NO,i dont know what they will be like now as they havent worked with the nets for about a year now.well im out tonight with the longnets but the dog staying at home ,got a few small orders for rabbits so it will be nice to have between 10 and 15 from a few drops.hopefully will have a thread up tomorrow .
