Back Stabbath 1
Do some longline training with her to get an instant recall. I have posted this reply many times. Order a longline (schutzhund type, or a horse lunge line) Get a prong collar Bring some very small treats (catfood size) Attatch line to collar to dog, bring dog to field, let her get used to it for a few minutes, then call her and pop the line. You MUST pop the line directly AFTER you call her. Let her come to you. If she dosn't come the first time, repeat. Do this a few times. After a while, she will get the hang of it and realise you want her to come as soon as her name is called. She will attampt to respond to the recall command BEFORE she gets popped by the line. When she gets to you, give her one treat and praise highly. So its like this, quickly - "Come" POP. When she is getting the hang of it, at random don't pop the line after calling and if she still comes, proceed with treat and praise. If she refuses, repeat with a pop of the line. You don't need to put on a stupid happy voice when calling at this stage, but the stupid happy voice is important to do when she gets to you. (In the learning stages of training anyway, this goes for any command) Some men find this hard to do, but it really helps for the learning stage of training. Right now your dog is at the correction stage of training, if you're sure she knows the come command. This works very well, but some dogs wise up if they are really stubborn and may not come when the line is off. For others they will come without fail, on or off the line. Lurchers are usually fairly "soft dogs", and I recommend this method first. For some dogs with dosgy recalls, an e-collar is a great safety measure to have on them at all times, that way you can be sure to get her back, even if she decides to be very bold. Of course you need to know a lot before attamting to use an e-collar - leerburg.com has all necessary information. If its not on that site its not worth knowing! Ha, and I tried to make this a short post! Good luck mate!! Edited December 17, 2008 by Back Stabbath

whippet08 8
i was taking my whippets for a work today i take them for a run on these football pitches. my bitch is about just over a year old she sometimes can cop a deaf one when recalling but shes not to bad, but today she would not come at all every time i called her she just looked at me and leged it. if the bitch seen another dog she just started chasing it i go to this place every day and the never does that. i tried leaving the dog and she just stud were she was and would not follow. i tried to keep my cool this went on for near a hour the dog would not even look at me. the dog did not even recall she ran to a woman with a dog who got hold of her for me. i have had dogs all my life some that were not the best at recalling but never had this [bANNED TEXT] the onley new thing i have done is yestoday i started taking my new pup with me and called them back early. i was hoping to start taking her out in the next couple of when she got fit. any advice i would be gratfull my bitch, when a pup, had a stage of ignoring the recall, after reading a fantastic book on lurcher training,i tried a method explained in the book, basically the dog knows it can outrun you,and of the lead you have no way of getting it too come back too you if it doesnt want too,get yourself a catapult, take her out,arm yourself with some ammo, such as acorns or balls of mud, let her of the lead and try calling her back, before she gets too far away,if she turns a deaf one, without her facing you fire off a acorn/ball of mud,if this hits her she will then realise you can reach her at distance, even if it doesnt make contact she will wonder what it was thats gone hurtling past her, fire again, whilst telling her COME!, i done this and only made contact once, she came strait back, after that i just took the catapult with me on walks, any time she played up, i called her, with catapult aiming at her(with nothing in it) and she knew, too come strait back, honestly i only had too take the catapult out my pocket and she would be by my side in seconds. this does work very well and should only need doing once, just take the catapult with you untill she gets the idea. my bitch is very good at recall now,and i dont ever have the catapult with me anymore give it a try honestly it works hope this helps richard p.s cheap catapults on ebay
