Hi everyone i had two hobs up untill two weeks ago , we keep them as pets and we love them to bits , two weeks ago i came in from the pub and i noticed straight away that something was wrong with one of them he was laid in the cage and he was,nt his self , i gave him a little rub and talked to him for a while then put his brother back in with him and went to bed, when i got up in the morning i found the sick one slumped half in the litter tray, got him out and wrapped him in a blanket, we had an emergency vet look at him , but by teatime he was dead  the remaining feller started to go down hill and promptly took him to the vet he was kept in for 48hrs and was allowed home :good: he is now fretting for his brother and wont have much to do with us he lays shaking in his cage but we try to take his mind off things and keep him company ass best we can , would it be best to get another one ass soon as poss ? can i just add he is two years and doctored

thanks silverfox

Personally mate i would give it another couple of weeks because you dont know if he is over his illness. I have found that ferrets except "strangers" quite well there may be a lot of noise but normally they are quite hospitable. Do you know what the other hob died from?

they are social creatures mate , what did the vet say was the matter with him ?

The results of both xray and blood test came back inconclusive ? at first the vet said it may be diabetes but it was,nt so he put it down to an infection ?

No mate with them being pets in the house every thing is changed daily ie.. water food litter , and cage cleaned out with hot water and tissue roll , this is why i cant understand what as happened and why the vet could,nt give me a reasonable answer ?

If it was an infection there is a good chance your other ferret might have caught it. I would seek a second opinion mate just to be on he safe side are the symptoms similar to the other ones???

That sounds like he might have something stuck in his airways

We took him back to the vets at 4pm , they checked him over , temp was normal no signs of anything in his mouth , but he had lost more weight , which i expected , he is staying in over night to have some glucose and they are going to try to get some food in him , they are also going to put us intouch with a specialist who lives in stockton , hopefully she can pinpoint the problem , the vet also said , he could be still suffering the loss of his brother , but it does,nt usually go on this long ..... two weeks now....
