hi all,

got a quick question.

I've spent a while looking at different laws tonight (on-line) and can't seem to answer my question

I have a FAC, using a .17hmr

I live in a very rural area, a bungalow with just under an acre of rear garden, half acre of front garden. (so rear garden is about 50 yards from road)

i've got a house each side of me,with only wooden fences deviding the rear gardens

at the back of my garden is a 450 acre field

Question is - can i shoot in my garden?? Mainly targets

don't want to break any laws. neighbours are quite happy for me to shoot ''now and then'' which is all it would be, but is it legal?

Thanks for any replys

Carl

If your FAC we're open, then it would be your discretion as to where you shoot, and that you comply with the laws regarding shooting near properties and highways.

If it is closed, then your garden would have to be passed as safe by an FEO. This in all normal circumstances and those you describe above, is unlikely. Its on the whole too risky for an FEO to pass land such as that.

Whether you hold an Open or Closed FAC, its Risky

Two things...the technicalities of shooting in your garden are one thing, but what does your FAC say about where and what you can shoot?!

it says - the .17hmr rifle, sound mod, and ammo, shall be used on land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the land owner has permission to shoot

(that may explain it but i'm so concerned that i stick to the law etc and dont loose the fac)

just need it explaining in basic terms!

hmm, the more i think about it and others say it's risky, (which it is really) i think i'll leave it to the permissions i've got locally.

cheers so far

with the right conditions on your ticket it could be done.

the 17 hmr dont mod to well, there is always a crack with every shot,

neighbors might be OK with it, but what about door to door sales people etc

who could be alarmed at hearing guns shots and be straight on the blower to the old bill.

if this does happen it could be by by ticket.

is it worth the risk.

closed ticket.

no.

I think that answers the question, your FAC is not Open and your back garden would have to be cleared by the police...Probably best to forget the garden...
