Where to puty my larsen

Recommended Posts

i have recently made a larsen trap (all mesh) from a kind of cobbled together design.

i was just wondering where is the best place to site such a trap, i am currently trying to catch a call bird with the old fake nest and eggs trick its been out for a day or so quite close to (abbout 10 feet from) a tall hedge in a paddock where the maggies frequent, i saw 8 in the one tree the other morning, is th is a good place to put it or should i move it further out into the open.

any help would be much appreciated

thanks

Ive always found its best to put mine where i last seen a magpie ,,Baited with a fake nest with one egg and maybe a cracked one to,,And a few shells around the trap for an eye opener,,Should get your first bird,,But rememmber its not really the time of year magpies are used to egg theving and this time of year i dont see what harm the maggies are doing so leave them for the spring and summer,, But good luck.

is it really as simple as that, there is no recomended position say in the open or in tight to cover. i moved it to under the afore mentioned tree last night and today one of the compartments was sprungbut for some reason tghe door got caught up and did not close fully i don't know if it was a misfire or because of the gap left my catch escaped??

anybody else got any ideas , i'm kind of a novice on the magpie front. but i dropped 3 doves and a crow last night some some of the feathery b*****ds are getting it.

Cheers guys(especially R&D)
