Steve Albano 21
There are no gophers in Europe, but I still thought some of you might find this interesting. This is a short video showing how I trap pocket gophers. These guys are far more destructive than moles, and for that I love the little guys. Quote Link to post

Steve Albano 21
Thank you, Nobby. Moley, gophers are basically a solitary animal and they do defend territories. They are not communal. But on the other hand, they live at much higher population densities than moles do, so for instance on this baseball field we currently doing where I shot the video, we've now taken about 60 of them off a fairly small area, and we're not done with them yet. We don't use half barrel traps, we use specialize gopher traps, and there are several types. Basically what I use is just a larger version of the little mole trap samples I sent to you. They're a one way tunnel trap. If you use some of the less effective traps available, some individuals will get pinched in traps but wriggle their way out, and when that happens, they learn very quickly to avoid traps. When you say half barrel trap, do yo mean something like a Duffus mole trap? I bet you could catch gophers in a Duffus, but probably not as efficiently as with a trap that is specifically designed for them. Phostoxin is also commonly used on gophers, but I don't think it's as effective as trapping. And poison baits are also used. Quote Link to post
