whippeter69 88
Tonight i went into the field next to my house (with permission) and started the training on my whippet. Firstly i started to walk her off the lead to heel with the lamp off, then after lots of praise for when she finally got it i started the next little practice. I got ball out of my pocket and started to roll it down the field, whilst she was on the lead, and let her watch it until it stopped, i turned the lamp off and the slipped here at the same time turning the lamp on. She then ran about 20 yds and picked it up, I pointed the lamp to my feet and gave a long smooth whistle and she came right into my feet and dropped the ball, and received lots of praise off me, we did this about 15 times and then moved on. I started to throw the ball whilst the lamp pointed at it and with her on the lead sliped her once it got 20yds away from us and still rolling, again she picked it up and i pointed the lamp to my feet and she bought the ball back to my, not to hand but dropped it at my feet. In a very pleased with her first training session and will continue each good weather night i get. Edited October 27, 2008 by whippeter69 Quote Link to post

Hi mate, well done keep at it, teach the dog to hold the ball, place it in its mouth and say hold it, until penny drops, then when recalling, tell it to hold it, soon it will retrieve to hand. good luck.
