Deker 3,491
Pull up a seat and get comfortable.... Got a call from one of my landowners a couple of days ago as some land is up for auction (which I have rights on as well)...a couple of small areas are fenced off..its a long story...but the suggestion is the Badger has moved in and they wanted me to confirm this and then write a report for the auction house.... and why was this...????? Because the land has a guide price of £25K per acre....yep £25K per acre for grazing land, with limited access and NO CHANCE of getting any planning permission!! So my landowner friends wanted Badger to be in residence to reduce the land value!! Unfortunately, as I was convinced, the Badger is actually a fox...one of which I shot on Tuesday...but following the call I thought it best to check and really be sure...so over early this afternoon and checked the areas really well. NO badger at all as I suspected (but to be fair there are loads in the area, some of which have created a major cave complex which the cows keep collapsing and falling into), but the fox is in serious residence, and prints from deer and rabbit in the freshly dug and very sandy spoil as well!!! Popped over to see the landowner who asked, to deliver the bad news...which they took really well and promised me continued rights if they bought the land and asked how long it would take me to clear the fox!! Life is strange..anyway, carried on with a shoot and VERY VERY quiet, to the extent I actually shot a pigeon with the centrefire, as, after a couple of hours it was all I had seen! Mr L called as he was going to join me, but by this time I was hacked off and it was also very windy so we agreed to go out Sunday and I was heading back to the motor. Last quick look and 4 bunnies in the field ...f*** me, managed to sneak up behind one of the horse shelters in a field to about 60 yards...peer round the side and shot 3 before the 4th decided it was time to go...went over to pick them up and 4 Roe in the next field!!!! Quick look and they all seemed to be girls...Bugger!!! Another check and one turned and had the antlers .. he just stood there looking at me broadside with his head turned at me..the textbook shot....only about 120 yards...... I was seriously thinking about a head shot but considering the location went for the heart!! It was slow motion from then on...had the bipod down and prone..an incredibly satisfying thump/thwat as contact was made (the 3 girls legged it for 30-40 yards in typical fashion then stopped and looked back) and he dropped on the spot some 2 or 3 seconds after contact! It's a funny old game!!!...but don't you just love it!!! Edited October 25, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
