Lamping with my dog

Never been lamping before, but I have a Doberman who goes mad after a torch light so I'm gonna try him out and see if he catches anything. He's really fast, its only twisting and turning which he isn't as agile at. He really needs to do work.

I took him out into the fields last night and he was good, waiting when I told him to and came back when I turned the light off.

 

Do you think he'll be good at it? I know someone who had a GSDxDoberman and it was apparantly the best dog for catching hares. It used to run them into a herd of cattle to confuse them!

 

 

 

 

 

Any advice on lamping would be great, thanks.

Sounds like a good sort of beast, should be filling the pot in no time.

 

Some of those maglites cast a good beam, but if your un-sure maybe you could go out on a full moon so it gives you a helping hand.

Its got a bendy top and is pretty strong, dunno if its strong enough though.

 

Also, wheres the best place to look for rabbits? All the fields we had last night were just cut rape, and overgrown, boggy grass. They are also frequently used fields for dog walking. I'd say a grazed field would be best?

All I can really suggest mate without looking at your land................is look for ground sign = sh1t

 

If you cans see Sh1t, you know something put it there.

 

Take your dog on some day time strolls on fields that you think may be productive. Smaller fields the better for your dog so the rabbits havent got many places to run.

Ok, thanks. Theres always droppings on the back pitches of my school come to think of it, and all around the greens. Lol, jayzus can ya imagine I got caught there, hahaha. Might try it anyway sometime!

Running dogs in freshly cut rape can end in blind dogs mate,find somewhere flat and free of obsticals and wait till a breezy night when the rabbits won't here you coming so well.If you wait till then your'll find more rabbits sat further out in the fields,hold your dog and try to pick one that squatts down and get your dog up to it.The rest is up to him but it does take a bit of time for a dog to get it right and don't get carried away with running him to far to soon.Have fun!.
