Guest A Sick Old Man

I remember that the pelts had to be perfect to get the top dollar, no holes or rips.

And it was a long job stretching them out and getting a razor sharp knife to get all the fat off, drying them and trimming them. I am not sure it would be worth the money now, it was great pocket money for me as a youth,

Good story Runsatnight :D

When it came to skinning, scraping, stretching and boarding it could be done quite quickly with practice.I can skin a fox in five mins, scrape in fifteen and then i would wash it in luke warm water and a touch of bleach. After that i would thoroughly rinse the pelt in warm water then hang it on the line to dry.

Then it was just a matter of tretching the pelt onto a board then standing it in the corner of the kitchen to air dry. There would be a pelt iether side of the board and you could use two or three boards. There was nothing put onto the pelt to help it dry, just air dried.

When these pelts got to the place of sale they would re-hydrate the pelts and they would need little doing to them to go into production ;)

This is the way to get top money for your pelts in the "GOOD OLD DAYS" ;)
