BlueCoyote 0
One is a 16 year old Thoroughbred Mare Before we bought her i got her bareback without a saddle and rode her around.. she seems to be an easy going old lady. she spooked once, when a bird flew out of a tree and into her face (and i mean right into her face) and surprisingly i stayed on.. i havent been on a horse in roughly six years..... she's trained to ride english, but i'm not.... but would like to be! english saddles dont cost as much as western saddles, and they're lighter and its something i dont know how to do... the other one is a 7 month old Mustang x Paint colt Havent met him yet. We're doing a trade actually.... all our goats (except two of the kids) for the colt. he's likely to be the one my mom will ride once he's old enough to be trained. She liked the TB's calm nature but the horse is about 16hh and my mom doesnt think she can climb that high to get on her back. Thats fine. I want to also learn jumping and this mare is already trained for it. So there they are. Just thought i would share. I'll post more pictures as soon as they are here probably going to need help with names for them too! the colt doesnt have a name and the mare is called Phoebe... which is a name i've never really been fond of... so offense to anyone named Phoebe.. Guest foxyjo.
Blue!!!!!!! That's great!!!! They both look nice types, good luck with them!!
BlueCoyote 0
thanks my family is calling me crazy for doing this. my sister seems to think the TB is going to be a nut because she hasnt been ridden in so long because her own TB is that way - But if Sunday's ride was any indication then i'm not too worried.... not yet anyway. my last horse (Appaloosa x Tennessee Walker) couldnt go two days without being ridden or else would turn barn sour. he had a lot of vices and was an opportunist.... if he thought he could muscle you around he would! This one i dont think is going to be that bad. she just needs time and attention.
lurchergrrl 1,441
Oh BC they're beautiful Especially the colt ... stunning! Best of luck with them. I've only ever ridden western saddles. I'm scared of these piddly little English ones
Guest foxyjo.
If you rode her with no proper tack, and that was the first time she's been ridden in a long while, then it doesn't sound to me like she'll be much bother!! I've had two very quiet TB's, and a couple of nuts too!! There's a mis-conception that all thoroughbreds are wired up, but that's not so. My family think I'm crazy too!! I've bought horses when I barely had the money to feed myself!! Plus I've bought some right crocks in my time, only stopping just short of 3 legs on occasion!! But nothiing I ever regretted. You'll have to keep us posted with lots of pics and updates on how you get on!!
BlueCoyote 0
Oh BC they're beautiful Especially the colt ... stunning! Best of luck with them. I've only ever ridden western saddles. I'm scared of these piddly little English ones i used to ride western saddles but i prefer bareback to any of them honestly lol but i'm er.. self taught? never took any lessons. maybe if i had i wouldnt have been put into the hospital twice because of a horse i have to give credit to that saddle horn though! two different times, two different horses.. 1st time my horse was attacked by another during a group trail ride, when i horse jumped sideways i managed to stay in the saddle and only because my knee was hooked around the horn! Second time the horse (appaloosa X) spooked a big hairy man... same thing, was hanging on with my left knee and a prayer lol i just dont like how heavy western saddles are.... i know they make them out of lighter material now and those can cost a LOT. plus this horse's whithers are higher than my head... i'll need to stand on a bucket to lift a huge saddle over my head and on to her back. One other thing.... i have to over come my fear of riding a horse on the road.... last time i did turned out bad (trip to the emergency room) I dont mind getting back on and trying again, i'm just not in a hurry to ride in certain areas. something about tempting fate you know? but its either get over it and ride in the areas i have access to or load the horse and drive somewhere else to ride. lurchergrrl 1,441
I never had any lessons, just got out riding as often as I could when I was younger. I love being around horses and would do so happily even if I could never ride them. I'm a fan of the saddle horn too Group trail, spooked horse, chaos ... aaaaaaaaannnnd THEY'RE OFF!! By gawd I was hanging on for dear life Bit of a rush tho, once things had calmed down. Plus, there's just something about the way the old, heavy leather saddles creak when you're on a quiet trail through the woods. I do miss horses. Can't wait to see more pics of them BC

My sister's TB is a rodeo reject. originally he was trained as a trick horse but he always performed under duress... the most he will do now is bow but the lady sold him to my cousin who boarded him and rode him only sometimes... she decided to let my sister have him because she had more space (and wouldnt charge a fee!) however my sister works and goes to college and as a result the horse has gotten lazy (unless its my cousin who comes out to ride him).. there was also a few issues with the farrier! Frosty did not like being tied down to have his feet worked on. the girl we're getting Phoebe from assures us she's an easy keeper. lol i guess we're find out soon enough eh? One thing i remember from a camping trip with horses, years ago, you can get amazingly close to deer when you're on horseback. i think it confuses the deer..... they just stand there, ten feet away trying to figure out what the hell you are... human or horse??
