lanesra 4,007
Freeze branding dogs is not legal in the UK: a shame, as it makes a lot of sense. The Americans do their hunting dogs I've noticed: pretty useful I'd think when you consider the amount of miles they cover at times. Feck all sensible is legal in the u.k. now mate, if i was offered something that could help keepin my dog with me the last thing id worry about was whether it was legal. Quote Link to post
Tiff 36
I have a girlfriend who tried a few different things with her dogs, she had some that were tattooed in their ears, some inside thighs, and some freeze branded on their outside haunches. Of course the only dog that ever went missing was one that she hadn't had done yet, she'd been in a car crash and it's crate broke open, all of the others that were branded and tatted were snug and safe in their crates, poor Fancy's crate opened and she was g-o-n-e. Did get her back a few days later due to posters and running about the county. Oh and she always branded/tatted her Social Security number as well as a tattoo registry number. All of ours are microchipped but I'd like to do freezebranding as well for good measure, the hounds around us are all freeze branded. Quote Link to post

valerio 32
Here in Italy every dog have to be microchipped or tattoed and registered to local veterinary service, there is a national archive of all dogs.if a dog is found in every part of Italy the local veterinary service can find the owner within a day or two. there are still dog thiefs(mainly boar hounds),but I think the introduction of the microchip helped us.If you are found out hunting with a dog without microchip or tattoe you can have 1200 euros fine and dog taken away.if you have a pup you have to go to the local vet service and have him microchipped(it cost about 25 euros),if the dog is lost, sold or dead you have to go to the vet service and change his status. If your dog is found lost and you have not communicated it to the vet service you can have some real problems. Bootsha 1,306
I tattoo all my dogs, and any of my mates dogs that want doing. National insurance number is a good idea, number only, if someone had your dog they'd have a t*@t of a job explaining that one to the plod. After doing the tattoo, get a piece of clear paper and put the actual tattoo needle print into the paper (assuming that its the plyers /puncture type tattoo)as well for your own records, then you have an identical copy for evidence should you need it. Tiff 36
that's why my friend had the outside haunch tatted ... now if you sell on dogs regular it wouldn't work, but for those that keep/dispose of their own, it works out well I'd say Quote Link to post
