k9delboy 138
BUILT MY KENNELS OUT OF BLOCK AND THEY ARE GREAT. RUB A FINE WET MIX OF SAND/CEMENT ON THE WALLS AND THEN PUT TWO OR THREE COATS OF EXTERIOR GLOSS ON THEM AND THEY POWER WASH BRILLIANTLY. I MADE MY BEDS OUT OF BLOCK ABOUT 24" HIGH AND FILLED THE MIDDLE WITH 18" OF POLYSTYRENE AND THEN 2" OF GRANITE ON TOP WITH A SLIGHT RUN OFF FOR WATER. KEEPS THEM COOL IN SUMMER AND WARM IN WINTER. I ONLY PUT 1" STABLE FLOOR RUBBER ON THE BEDS IN SUMMER AND STRAW IN THE WINTER. THE BEDS ARE ALWAYS WARM AND DRY IN NO TIME AFTER WASHING. ONLY PAINT THE WALLS AND NOT THE FLOOR AS IT WILL LIFT WITH THE DOGS NAILS WHEN THEY JUMP OUT OF THEIR BED. I ALSO PUT IN 3/4" GALV PIPE AND ATTACHED IT TO AUTOMATIC HORSE DRINKERS SO THAT THE DOGS ALWAYS HAVE FRESH WATER TO DRINK BUT KEEP DRINKERS HIGH ENOUGH SO THE MALES DONT PISS IN THE BOWLS AS MINE WOULD. ANOTHER GOOD IDEA IS TO PUT THE BEDS AT THE FRONT OF THE RUN AND NOT THE BACK AS THEY WILL CRAP AT THE BACK OF THE KENNELS INSTEAD OF AT THE FRONT. THIS WAY, WHEN YOU GO OUT TO SEE THEM THEY WILL NOT BE UP AT THE FRONT PADDING THE CRAP EVERY PLACE. THEY CAN ALSO JUMP UP ONTO THE ROOF OF THEIR BED AND SUN THEMSELVES AT THE FRONT OF THE RUN INSTEAD OF LYING IN THE DARK AT THE BACK IF YOU HAVE A FULL ROOF. I ALSO PURCHASED THREE GALV PANELS WITH DOORS AND CATCHES FOR ABOUT £260 FROM THE NET. DEAR, BUT WELL WORTH IT AS IT MAKES THEM LOOK GOOD AND SAVES YOU FANNYING ABOUT MAKING THEM AND BUYING HINGES, CATCHES ETC. HOPE THIS HELPS, DELBOY P.S. FORGOT TO SAY, ALWAYS RENDER OUTSIDE WALLS AS BLOCK WILL OTHERWISE SOAK UP WATER AND BE DAMP ALL THE TIME. Edited October 8, 2008 by k9delboy
