bullmastiff 615
Well I wasn't going to post this as it's really is poor camera/lamp work AGAIN! so I apologies now!!! but thought bugger it everyones enjoying the entertainment on Marks threads! so it'll probably be missed! I went out last Sunday for a quick flick around a friends farm, his sister and her husband were down visiting with their Parsons Russell. Having never been lamping before they wanted to come with us so yet again I handed over the Lamp and took the camera instead! With his sister Lamping and her husband with the Parsons on a bailer twine slip we headed out into the fields. First field and theirs a set of fox eyes staring at us from about 200-250 yds but they were right against the hedge tried squeaking but no luck so a couple of quiet coughs and it disappeared through the hedge into the next field, quick run to the gate and Lamp on, twinkle twinkle little stars. Not surprisingly the Parson's wasn't slipped to flush as we didn't have a gun with us but as I tried to get over the gate I accidentally let go of the end of my dogs slip leads! Clumsy me! Next field nothing, fourth, fifth and sixth we draw a blank. What you get for lamping with first timers I guess? 4 people and an excited/whining dog!! Still we had a good start with Roo in fine style. Down near the edge of a wood and Lamp on, pair of eyes in the Distance, Rabbit on it's own in the middle of a stubble field! Perfect! Lamp off, quiet walk, then lamp on again to see it standing up on hind legs at still over a hundred yds (trying to get less than 50ish for the Terrier!) then off it went flat out for the wood, well I was buggered if I was going to waste a chance like that! "SLIP EM" i shout whilst trying to get the camera recording!!! Here comes the awful video, so a description of the grainy action (or lack of!) your about to see! (Sony handycam on night mode and first timer on the lamp!) Roo's on it just as it reaches the Wood, bangs into the wood after it with Tia then the Parsons a second or two after, getting there they both head down the outside of the wood just as Roo drives the Rabbit out again, Straight into the yapping Terrier! Well Pedigree he may be but he's still a Terrier! locks on to it and won't let go!! Roo comes out the hedge seeing the Rabbit and picks it up trying to retrieve it! leading to lots of laughter and dog shouting as Roo picks up rabbit and terrier and starts dragging them in a wide arc back to us! needless to say the rabbit was munched a bit by the time we managed to get the dogs off it both trying to claim it as 'their' rabbit. (Roo wouldn't let go until we got the Terrier off!) Said it was bad! Anyway, every field after this one had at least 4 badgers in each, I've never seen so many in one night! (anyone with a level headed Jack fancy coming down for a pint!!!) So back to the farmhouse for Sloe vodka and a bit of banter! (mainly aimed at me and Roo for being beaten to the strike by a show terrier!!!) when I left I could hear them asking my friend how much a lamp would cost! That's 5 newbies now in 2 weeks who have never seen a Lurcher run let alone chase anything, hooked on Lamping! So Roo's doing well! (with catching fans if not Rabbits!) Hope you enjoyed the write up if not the video! Cheers Luke. Quote Link to post

Roo's got a fair bite on him so I can't eat them once he's finished with them and I've realized now, he's just never going to be a decent Rabbiting dog, but horses for courses he's a cracker at other work! Not just any Terrier either!... a Show dog! Cheers Luke. Quote Link to post
