We had a couple of nice days out with great weather.

We had the pleasure of meeting some of our new fans at the pumpkin farm

The next day we walk quite a way before we found a ridge that sat high above a river that was pretty active. It was a flood plain, and the dirt was very soft. My friend's bitch found a groundhog here, look all that fresh dug dirt :D

The hog dug straight up and bolted - and I didn't get a picture

We checked a bunch of spots without finding anyone home, so we called it an early day.

Very tight groundhog settes right now, we had two bitches both around 11" tall that had to work to get thru some of the tight spots.

It will be nice to get into groundhog again full swing in a couple of months. we had a very nice weekend with good company and good food - until next time........

Hogs can bolt away quickly. Some folks take lurchers along just for that reason. But they will easily slip away into their next den given the chance. We've had a hog get out of the snare and let the russell go to catch it, which worked too. They're not as fast as a rabbit,
