two more dogs from saturday night !

Recommended Posts

went over to a friends house to learn abit about reloading and to take apart some bullets that i was given.

i wasnt sure to use them as they hadnt been built up to 40.5 grains of varget in my rifle ! so i didnt want to use something that was in the top end of the powder range for the safety.

anyway i have a load of cases ready to load up soon but at a lower powder level to start with. some 40grain vmax and some 50 grain vmax. and hopefully some 50 grain nostlers which i hear is very good.

anyway turns out i couldnt load them saturday as i didnt have the pieces with the case sits on the press

but never mind that will be sorted soon.

after i had pulled some of the heads out and stored the bullets and powder save. jonty my mate said do you want to see if we can get a fox or two well your over here so i said sure. i got my boots on and lamp form the jeep and off we went in his pickup.

got to the 1st permission he shoots on whixh is like 2 mins from his house the lucky sod  650 acres of land he hasnt long got it so hasnt been round it all he told me. anway the bit we tryed ive been there before with him and dave the other friend i shoot with.

had a quick look over a couple of fields and a couple of calls but no luck. so moved on to the next place he has permission on around 400 acres i think he said. again 2 mins up the road  parked the car went over the gate and walked up abit of a bank on to a big open field this field is massive abit like a big common with abit of a gorse on the left side of it

called there on and off for a couple of mins but no luck so walked up the right side of the field as there is a field next to that which has been cut again a massive field put the lamp over it but no luck so we made our away acros to where the gorse is had a flick with the 170 lightforce and there was a piar of eyes fox ! he was very intrested just sitting just tucked in my the gorse. the shot was safe but the cattle in the field didnt like the fox and was chasing him about ! so could take the shot !

never mind on we went over to the the gorse area over in to a massive field again just over the gate from the gorse

this field had just been cut to the bales where still in the field so i said lets go out into it and rest on one for a call.

after 3 mins lamp on and a fox was at the top end of the field a good 300 yards away wouldnt come in and then went out the back door ! i turned round to the bottom of the field and a fox was there looking about 170 yards away. called and he came in abit to around 150 yards jonty fed him a 50 grain homeload from his 222 and down he went

on we moved to the next field had a call nothing about so went to the pickup onto the other farm he has again 2mins away from his house the lucky sod ! parked up walked around a couple of fields and called one in 120 yards 22 done the deed again :toast:

went on to a couple more fields and see some more foxes but they wasnt playing never mind there be there again im sure  over all a good evening and lots of walking so good for the health. i havent got much shooting land myself but dave and jonty has so when i get to go over to there farms its nice and makes a change. and to be honest

im happy just to lamp and let them shoot after all its good that they let me tag along in the 1st place
