karlp86 0
today i invited my mate jono out for a days shooting. he is a city lad and has never fired a shotgun our rifle so this was a complete first for him and a chance for me to share one of my hobbies with a friend. we arrived at one of my permissions at about 11am and decided to do a bit of pigeon decoying. as we headed to one of the fields two roe deer hopped across the field away from us which was nice to see. the sun soon came out it really started to get hot and as such the pigeon activity was slim to nil but we decided to tough it out for a while i the hope of some joy. over the next 5 hrs the birds where few and far between with me and my mate taking it in turns to shoot i managed to get 2 and he drew a blank so we decided to pack that up and do a few targets with the .22lr before having a go at some bunnies. as we were packing up the same two deer we saw earlier ran back across the field and down towards the nearby river. at the target shooting my mate proved quite a good shot once he stopped snatching at the trigger so after an hour we got in position for so rabbits. we waited 25mins for them to reappear as our approach had scared them off and then one hopped out 45yrds from us so my mate squeezed the trigger and it flipped over backwards and that was it. we waited for anymore to come out but after 10mins a bit of rain passed overhead so we retreaded to a nearby tree for some cover and collected the rabbit. my mate was pleased to see that he had hit it in the eye and it had gone straight out the other. as the light shower came to and end i noticed a rabbit hop out of some nettles and a lazered 153yrds so i thought why not go for it i new the gun was capable so i put the bipod down got the rabbit in the crosshairs then another jumped out behind it. earlier i had told my mate how i would like to hit 2rabbits with one shot and i thought this could be it so i waited till one sat infront of the other gave them the right amount of holdover and squeezed. down they went, my mate couldn't believe it and he hadn't even seen that there were two there. i was in shock to 153yrds looked an almost impossible shot my previous best was 101yrds but i had smashed that, let alone hitting two rabbits with one shot!! we ran over to have a look and there the two rabbits were the first one got it right between the eye and ear and the one behind it got it through the neck, both dead instantly. we decided to finish on a high note so we the collected our things and headed back to the car and on the way we were confronted by a roe buck who wasn't scared of us at all just kept 40 odd yards away and watched us walk past. it was a cracking day out and the first thing my mate asked me when we got in the car was when can he come back and have another go. so hopefully another city boy convert into our wonderful sport. atb Karl Edited September 13, 2008 by karlp86 Quote Link to post
