I am glad to say i have managed to instill in Liam the same strict safety outlook I myself was taught in the Services - and he has taken it on board well. Safety has to come first for me, and so (and this is in line with what you say about kids copying us, which is so true ) I made sure he shadowed me for a lengthy while (when i was target shooting in my garden) before i would let him have a go of the rilfe. I must say, i am very pleased with his standards so far, both in safety and his shooting style; what with him being a 'young gun' and all. Regards, Grim. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
It sounds as if you have a Good young Man there Grim. I think you should ask him if he is ready first, Let him look through the scope with the Crosshairs on the Rabbit and see what his reaction is. If he is comfortable and at ease, then he will take the shot calmly and collected. If he is unhappy, he will leave it for another day. I'm not trying to put Liam or yourself off, but make sure it is not pure enthusiasm and that he has given it a touch of thought. If he is in his comfort zone then he will have no trouble. Let us know how you get on. And just take it easy, at 9, there is no real rush, he will pull that trigger when he's ready. Regards SS Quote Link to post
Guest foxyjo.
Sounds a proper little fella!! Well done to you and him GR. My lad had his first go at live quarry about 3 weeks ago, and he did well, I was delighted! I put some pics on here, and you will have to do the same - Liam will be so chuffed! My boy hasn't seen it yet as he's away, but nice encouraging comments will set your teaching in concrete for him. My lad's 11 now, but has always been brought up with the circle of life and food chains under his nose, and is an excellent little ambassador for field sports in general. he once embarressed my Grandmother by standing up in her trolley in the local supermarket, argueing about the benefits if fox hunting to an audience of about 5 strangers!! This was started by him wearing a pro-hunting badge and someone commenting on it. My grandmother said he was literally holding court against these people, and when she finally managed to move away, one of the onlookers came up and shook his hand. He was six years old at the time!! Anyway, enough motherly love!! You'll know when the time's right, it just happens. The very best of luck to Liam! Quote Link to post
