cúagusgiorraí 57
I was wondering if perhaps a working dog can become detrimentally desensitised to a scent. For example if you introduce a stuffed animal into their living area. Like today I hung a small trophy in the house and the dogs were unsettled looking for the source of the scent. They will eventually learn to live with the scent, but will that then cause problems out in the field, because they are so used to the scent continously hanging in the air at home? Will they still crave that scent in the field?
sandymere 8,263
Perhaps as the trophy ages a little the scents will change and the fresh scent in the field would be different but interesting idea.
BlueCoyote 0
i doubt it. and i say that because my terrier only leaves my bunnies alone because i've threatened to kill her if she touched them. but loose or wild bunnies look out! Sandy is right though. over time the smell of you, your home, dogs, etc will absorb into the stuffed animal and it wont smell so much like the wild thing that it was. i dont think your dogs will be effected. in fact i would be more concerned about them chewing it up!
