Guest sccs
hi guys.. i am in the process of getting a new rifle. up untill now i have been using a bsa supersport that is my fathers. i think its about time i got my own and now that finances allow me to. i have been scouring the web for help/advice and cant find anything definitive.. i have arround £700 to spend in total. so the questions are. should i go for a springer or a pre charged can anyone recomend a good gun in either that would do a good job with rabbits within my budget. also i have noticed that alot of guns come in a carbine version with a shorter barel. is there any real advantage of having the carbine? the supersport i currently use is a carbine but have not used the non corbine so i cannont compare. thanks guys.. Guest tossa
get a secondhand precharged then get a good gunsmith to sort it for you, if you want it to go fac get one with a buddy bottle then you will get a decent amount of shots i use a rapid 7 myself it suits me although some dont like the way they look get yourself a divers bottle preferably a 300 bar 7 litre at least, 30-40 ftlb ispowerfull enough any higher and its pellets thatare the prob Quote Link to post

Guest perlin
The Hobs right -if you`ve got a stirrup pump you needn`t worry about running out of air, only trouble is, when I`ve used the stirrup pump I gotta sit down for half an hour to recover (I`m too old) .You get less shots per charge with a carbine but they are a lot less cumbersome than "full length" models and a lot easier to use from a hide (or a car). Get youself one of the airgun magazines ,find a local gun club cos most members will let you try out different guns and you will always find guns advertised for sale. Hope this helps, good hunting Quote Link to post
Guest sccs
again some good info guys thanks.. looks like ill have to wait a littl longer and same some extra and get a rapid. i assume when they have been charged correctly they will be right on the limit? or do i need to get it tunned to acheive 12 ft/lbs i have been reading on this and other forums and alot of peeps recomend theairguncentre.com as a good place to buy from also i have looked at alot of the 2nd had ones.. and the ones that have rapid are only about £100 cheaper than new. i went on airgunforum.net as tossa said but nothing there at the moment thanks again for the help guys.. this might cause a bit of a handbag fight again.. but i have only ever shot .22 and never .177 so can ne of you guys that have shot in both with the same model gun please tell me you preference.. looking at shooting rabbits and crows, rooks and gulls also on the subj of refilling. am i correct in assuming that a 400 buddy bottle is .4 of a litre this being the caseu would get arround 30 charges from a 12l tank? so this begs the question of how much do you guys that use the divers bottles pay to get em filled. according to theoben @ 12 ft/lbs you should get arround 300 shots per charge so thats like around 9000 rounds and opinions guys? Guest perlin
Hi SCCS, the majority of field trial shooters use .177 which should tell you something, it seems a lot more forgiving when judging distances , but the .22 carries a heavier punch.its down to personal choice. I would think that if you are going to convert to FAC .22 would be a better option. Not sure about the mathematics about filling capacity but I have an air arms S410 CLASSIC (.22) I get around 90 shots per fill and 15 fills per bottle (3L 300bar).This costs £2.50 to fill at a local garage. Good hunting Quote Link to post
Guest sccs
perlin i take it you using a 200cc bottle? so thats about 1/5th of a penny per shot. not too bad was expecting to pay more than that.. ill have to hit the yellow pages again and get some prices.. also i have noticed alot of places the price of the pump is not alot cheaper than the bottle kits. also silencers. do you need one with a pcp? i have one on the supersport and it makes a big difference. if i do need one can ne one recomend the best to get. balancing cost / quality.. thansk again, Quote Link to post
maty j 6
the silencer on my s400 makes a hell of a difference but its up to you. you tried the airgunbbs.com? Quote Link to post

Guest The Hob
Sccs, Have you tried "Keens guns" in Aberkenfig near Bridgend. Thats where I got mine and they do finance cost me £20 odd a month but obviously paid more each moth to pay it up. Quote Link to post
