I don't think you will be fully able to trust your springer not to chase. probably best kept as a pet and start again.

i agree any changes at this age wont be fair on the dog, love him for what he is, and if your looking to train a dog start at the begining, get a pup, a lot of hard work and patients and you'll have a great working companion, if this is the road you go down one word of caution never take your new prodigy out with your current dog as it will be sure to pick up bad habbits.
