hi everyone,i am writing to ask if anyone uses a .22 hornet and how do they rate it against other calibres,i read the forums but the hornet as little or no mention,i have an hornet myself and use it on foxes if i have a chance i go with a friend and when we do call a fox im usualy left holding the lamp while he shoots it with his 223,is he trying to tell me that he doesnt rate the hornet as a fox rifle ha ha??.iam a member of an american hunting website and i asked the same question of the hornet on their forum and got a reply saying that it would kill a coyote and i said thanks and if i should come across one in the uk id be sure i had my hornet with me ha ha,they didnt rate it against the bigger calibres, the ballistics they said were very poor, looking forward to your views on this subject.HAPPY HUNTING!!!

nuffing wrong with the hornet, just a bit short on range, have taken red deer with it, ruger m77 and had a brno fox for years. used it mainly for rabbits and goats good to 150 meters and a bit more ;) should handle fox no problem if you know it's limits :good:

The hornet fell foul of the progress thing I think. When I was younger the hornet was THE fox round along with the 222.As lamps and tele sights have got better ,the 223 has stepped into their place as it is considered by many as the ultimate flat firing ,long distance round, and rightly so .Personally I get more satisfaction from getting close to a fox at night either by squeeking it in or stalking out to a wary one.Shooting a fox at 250 yds with a 223 is not for me as it requires no bushcraft ,only marksmanship.A fox shot with the smaller calibres is worth 5 with a big un.

A hornet was my first .22 centrefire, i sold it when i went to .223. It was a wonderfull little round, easy to load for, if a little hard on brass, i found its humane range on fox to be 150 - 175 yards ish.It was quiet, i ran it unmoderated, and basically couldnt fault it. I think you will find, that hornet sales are actually better than .222, which is really the calibre thats dying out.If you want a proper foxbuster, try the .204 ruger, it beats all the 22 centrefires, with a shitty stick :good:
