Smoking?

Recommended Posts

Was just wondering what people think as to how rabbits react to the smell of smoke. I have frequently up until now had a smoke (rollies or alternative of) while lying down in wait, and sometimes have made kills during o just after...so surely the smell may not bother them? However there ahve been times I havent seen them come up and that may be the reason? Just wondering if any of you old timer hunters have seen a rabbit take a sniff in the air and do a runner?! The ones that would assosiate that smell with human waiting are usually the ones that end up in my freezer!

if you stay down wind it shouldn't be a problem. they are more likley to be wary of your smell ( not saying you smell, jack...lol.)

yeah i have smoked on occasions when out shooting . but always stay downwind but only do it to see if the wind as changed by the smoke . yes rabbits can smell it but it all depends where the rabbits are . if its close to town or by the side of a busy road then i dont think it will bother them but if your out in the countryside then it properly would

I have a theory, the same goes for fishing, that the harder you look as you wait, the longer it'll take; and I it seems to happen quite often that I'll roll a rollie, look up and a rabbit will have popped out or a fish will have bitten. ;)

well the farmer where i shoot had a fire the other week,, in the field where they normally are ,was empty . its happened before ,and i put it down to the rabbits like most animals hide or run from fire , smoke normally means fire
