borderman45 0
Still very new to this forum and I'm sure this subject must have been covered before, I have looked in the old posts but can't see it. I have a 2 year old border terrier who is very healthy, she has a good diet of raw food and does well at working terrier shows where people tell me she looks great BUT her breath can knock you out at ten paces ! I have heard that it is common in borders. . . Is that true ? and can anything be done ? I don't really want to change her diet and in all honesty it does'nt bother me that much but the wife and kids say she stinks !! . . . I did suggest that they left ! . . . Did'nt go down well. Guest SJM
My border dog has rotten breath, hes fed the same diet as my bitches, is in excellent health and has nice white teeth and eats lots of bones and raw food, so perhaps it is a common thing? I just dont let him anywhere near my face as hes a licky type of dog at the best of times I would say the bad breath thing has come on over the last year or so, he never had it as a pup. If the dogs in good health I wouldnt worry too much about it just keep an eye on the teeth make sure there is no broken/rotten or infected ones as that can sometimes cause foul breath. mart123blue 0
My borders breath got a bit fruity when I fed her on tinned food for a short while. Switched her back to dry and it is now sweet as a nut

borderman45 0
Thanks for the replies so far, I have read and spoken to people who have also experienced this with their borders. I have fed her a few different foods over 2 years and her breath has always been bad and different from my other dogs but she is perfectly healthy with good teeth. She is a lovely dog with a sound temperament and a good ratter so to me its a small price to pay.
