hi all after deciding too get some campbell khaki i built a duck house which i put on the island of my pond i purchased them yesterday and put them in the duck house for the night.

this morning i let them out and now they are nowhere too be seen,do you think they will come back too there house,im new too keepeing ducks,there home is very nice but will they come back? any help would be great

sorry to say they probably won't be back !!!!!

 

keep them penned in like ads says......3/4 days minimum.

 

they will become used to their surroundings and then it will become home.

 

anyway.........lets hope they do return

i agree with the others. pen them up, feed them, get them used to the area then let them out.

all but four of mine were hatched and raised out here. but the other three have been here long enough that they dont wander too great a distance.

in fact, a few weeks ago i left the gate open while moving bags of feed from the car to the barn. the ducks followed me out, then back in.. then back out.. then back in.. then back out... well you get the idea lol

yes ive sorted this out,one of the ducks came back,i have since got another and have the two in a pen now,untill they get used to the place like youve said,at the moment they seem a bit wary and quite thin i think,also anyone know how many handfulls(approx) of layers pellet a day two ducks should have,at least while there penned up .cheers

i dont know about the layer.... i just feed mine a bucket full because i have 11 ducks.... well... 10 now (11 was invited to dinner last Saturday)

but.... i have to say i'm jealous and i want your island!

you build it yourself?

 

no i diddnt build it my grandad did about 20 years ago, i just strimmed it all down and built the duck house,do you give your ducks anything else ie:bread, vegtables etc,as i am new too keeping ducks
