If you haven't worked with anyone who has Plummers then the only way you'll get to know first hand is to get one yourself and see how things go. Did the few you spoke to tell you why the Plummer wouldn't be good for rabbiting? Haggler Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Does anybody else hear a can of worms being opened :11: If you only intend to use a terrier for bushing then I think any terrier would be fine. My first terrier was a Plummer and the breed does have an amazing nose. Quote Link to post

Guest grubygrafter
a plummer would be a good choice so would a russell .. border..lakie...patt...beddie...etc. personaly ide go for a small lurcher, they will doe everything a terrier can. and more ..cs Quote Link to post
deep dig 3
grubygrafter is spot on what he says . plummers are great dogs for marking rabbits to ground as are all terriers but if you want a dog to mark and catch go for a lurcher something like a bed/whip Quote Link to post
Guest Keeps
Like has been said before any terrier will bush. I have kept russells all my life, still have one but have found plummers to be superior bushing/rabbiting/hunting dogs, must be something to do with their noses. On the downside they will hunt up and sometimes disappear for long periods of time, which can sometimes be a nuisance and other times can be very useful :11: I also take mine out ferreting regularly, which they do pretty well at, Ive tried taking the russell but she's just too exciteable, the plummers seem a bit steadier. Depends what you want really, even my big lurchers like to bush the terriers can usually get in where they cant though :11: Quote Link to post
phil wright 2
personally if i could only keep one dog id go for a lurcher everytime.mine can bush almost like terriers and very rarely do they come across a rabbit which cant be flushed out.if i didnt have terriers they would do plenty of ratting aswell. ive owned plummers for years and still keep the type, they are good hunters and may suit you fine but a good lurcher is the way to go IMO. Guest The Hob
Hi lads, in response to what your saying at the moment I do have a lurcher bitch she's collie/whippet/greyhound x collie/whippet she's 9 mths old. She's had a few with myxy in the day. Been out a few times on the lamp & had a few short runs but hasn't caught yet. not to worried at the moment cos she's still a pup. As for bushing I cant keep her out of there, every bush we pass if theres a scent she's in there. Thought lurchers were ment to stay out and course the field tho. As it is I'll stick with just her. Thanks for all your advise well appreciated. Quote Link to post
Guest grubygrafter
wise move as you will have your work cut out training your lurcher. Quote Link to post
