lgray88 4
the mp153 practical shooting version comes with the 9 shot tube, this tube extends nearly to the end of the barrel but im pretty sure that the standard version is 5 shot 4 in the tube and 1 in the breach obviously this depends on the cartridge size as the 3.5" cartridges is only 3 in the tube and 1 in the breach , but if using the smaller cartridges 5 can be acheivable, i read that on the net somewhere so dont take my word for it. i cant wait to get mine im getting impatient . John is there any chance you can show me how your blank works in your cartridge tube of your mp153? liam Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
It'll hold five 3" shells, four in the mag and one in the chamber. Four 3.5 inch shells. I'll get back to this in a while, got to go farming now. Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Ok the gas system... Very basically two holes inside of the barrel bleed off a little gas when a shot is fired. This gas moves the action backwards automatically. As this happens the elevator moves downwards to collect another cart from the magazine, which itself is unlocked now as the action has moved backwards. A cartridge is spring propelled onto the elevator which moves upwards again. The action then moves forwards driving that same cartridge into the chamber. Always, always, always remember that there is no automatic safety. When one shot is fired, unless you yourself put the safety catch on again, the gun is unsafe and ready to fire Now, the magazine tube... When you remove the forend nut (as I call it, been a while since I read the booklet...) and the forend and barrel you see this picture... See the threading on the right hand side end of the magazine tube? This bit sticks out from the forend and you screw the forend nut onto it to keep everything together Now, a few inches to the left of that threading we see a black ring, a rail and a spring, this is the asembly that moves the action backwards when the gas is bled from the shot. This next photo shows the magazine tube minus that asembly. Note the action which fits into that rail and the cocking handle have all been removed. To remove the action all you do is pull out the cocking handle. Becareful with all that type of work though as nearly everything is attached to a spring somewhere, things have a tendency to become airborne if you don't pay attention. This next photo shows the magazine tube unscrewed from the rest of the shotgun. The round piece of metal you can see goes on over the magazine tube once you screw it back in, names eludes me so forgive the clumsy terms. Close up view... The bit poking out of the magazine tube is spring loaded and pushes the carts out onto the elevator. The forend side of the magazine tube. Aghain this threading sticks out from the forend and is what the forend nut screws onto to keep everything together. There are two cut outs in that thread, you can see one in the photo. To get to the magazine spring inside you need to press the bits of plastic in gently on each side. Do one at a time and be very careful, that plastic bit will fly a long way. Forend nut also pictured. I added the sling swivel myself. Now when that bit of plastic is removed this is what you get. The "plug" I intend to use is simply a bit of round wooden dowel. If you need any let me know as I have loads. The way I install it is to put the spring back in first, do this carefully, it's a long one and you don't want to damage it. Then put the dowel in, this will be under a good bit of pressure so take care. Then simply replace that plastic cap and you're done Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
thank you very much for your help john, is that plastic cap in with a split pin? what stops the long spring to not come out the other end of the cartridge tube? liam Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
There are two plastic buttons I suppose you could call them on that plastic cap. When you push it into the magazine tube they spring out into the cut outs on either side That's what holds the spring in place. In the third photo up from the bottom you can see a metal piece coming out of the left end magazine tube that holds the spring on that side. Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
ah i understand , so the bit of wood is just equal in lenght to two 3" cartridges? so if i have a crimped tube how will it look? liam Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Yeah that's it exactly @ the dowel. I have no idea about the crimped tube though. Quote Link to post
