We have colonies of these types breeding wild around here.........i think they are feral ferrets.........too light to be true polecats i think...........but you never know! No earthly reason why that shouldn't be one. If coat tone was reliable for identification, scientists wouldn't need to mess about with skulls, genomes and god knows what. Run a Google search on terms like " Polecat reintroduction / survey ". Things like that. I once read some mind bending stuff being shared amongst those active in the field. I even knew a guy in Luton who was breeding them, govt. sponsered. That's how I know they now have Polecats in Hampshire (of all f*ckin places! ) Yet no one in their right mind, without knowing they'd been released there and were now thriving, would accept a " ferret " found in that county was actually the real kiddie. Had a few guys say to me that they'd see, and found, dead, polecats, but i was always a little skeptical... but now it seems quite likely if they've been released here... have you any idea of when they where realeased? But a late friend of mine, the Master Taxidermist, Mr Peter O' Connor of Luton was bang at it. This was twenty five years ago. He was breeding other protected creatures too. I can't honestly remember what, but I do know he got tax relief on the apples he had to buy in to feed something or other he had there.
