Swallows, House Martins etc

Hi,

 

 

Could someone explain what the fundamental difference is between:

 

Swallow - House Martin - Sand Martin

Making it as simple as I can;

 

Swallow has that distinctive, forked, 'swallow tail'.

 

House Martin has a much shallower fork and shows a glaring, white top rump in flight.

 

Sand Martin is brown all over the back.

 

Swift has wings like a taught bow and appears black in flight.
