Guest pip Posted May 13, 2008 Report Share Posted May 13, 2008 While out walking yesterday on the hills i nearly got hit by a wee sparrow type ground nesting bird which got up in front of me,i looked and seen a small nest with 4 grey speckled eggs.I see these nests a lot but this is the first with eggs.No camera with me though any ideas,sorry for the crap description ofthe bird no specs on. Meadow pipit or Skylark ...????? I had thought meadow pipit but didn t really have a clue,i wasn t sure if we had skylarks in Ireland and we where at a good height too.Do skylarks migrate as iv e seen these wee birds during winter too??????Thanks Nikey Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Only, I've had Quail on my ground here. Now I'd kill for a 'Crake! Corncrakes are out in Blacksod as far as I know. I used to hear them years ago further inland. All this modern farming is destroying them. I dont see any farmers cutting the grass in an eco friendly way anymore either; i.e from the inside out. But with farming on the decrease, perhaps wildlife will start to recover again. Quail! I didnt know we had any here. I have seen a few red grouse Quote Link to post Share on other sites
