garyw 0
whilst sat here replying to a few posts got a phone call from a friend who has permission on 3 golf courses nearby he sorts out the rabbits for them.any way he called me yesterday and asked if i wanted to sort out a fox on one of the courses,it had been digging up the bunkers and the head man was well pissed off so off i go with him to lamp for him whilst he bashed a few bunnys. we got there at about 9.30 and walked the course i took the trusty 17rem with me with some 25gn berger varmint rounds very safe as there are a few houses around the border of the course.we had been walking for 20mins and had 5 bunnys when we got to the spot where charles had been playing sand castles.nothing was found with the lamp so i started calling into a slight breeze, nothing showed so we walked on about -90 yds this is to give the call a differant location after only 2 mins we have eys at 150yds so best dying rabbit impression is used[sounds more like a cat getting its nuts trapped in a door] but it works for me. anyways charles trots in moving left/right/left again trying to catch us on the breeze he gets to 90yds pops his head out of some scrub in front of us a little squeel and he steps right into the lamp beam, the rifle is on the sticks the engine room is located in the scope and a free sample of 25gn berger is on its way to mr.fox- the golf course-leeds.well the package arrived safely and was accepted with wonderment by said fox. down he goes like a sack of spuds we walk over and mr.fox is a BIG MR.FOX my mate picks him up and says this c*nts big any way i didnt have my camera so no positive proof but my mate says he will come back in the morning with his fishing scales and weigh him.well thats the phone call i got charles came in at 25lbs6oz. thats my biggest to date.he saw the head greenkeeper as well because all the foxes shot on the course are left in the machine yard for him to see even he was gobsmacked.i wish i had taken my camera now. SportingShooter 0
Those .17 Remington loads of yours are proving lethal Gary. I was thinking of a .17 Rem myself for sometime in the future for pure fox control as they are getting the results for many. A nice write up too, I have a golf course permission and it is one of the more difficult areas to shoot over. Ive switched to shooting 40gr Vmax in the .222 there now as they normally stay within the carcass if hit in the engine room front on. Regards SS Quote Link to post
