DESTRUCTION OF HABITAT

Took my dogs out for a walk this morning. Usual beat, bit of rough ground and set aside land, with a two acre conifer wood on the fringes of a local mental hospital. This wood has been there for about 35years and has become home to foxes, rabbits, and a small herd of roe deer, never mind all the birdlife. Dismayed to hear the sound of a couple of chainsaws going full pelt. I walked round to find 5guys from the local authority felling the conifers, when i asked the foreman why they were doing this, he replied i dont know because theyre not building on here. Seems like the council have bought a job lot of chainsaws, or the lunatics have taken over the asylum. STUPID DESTRUCTIVE b*****ds. :wallbash::wallbash:

 Maybe - just maybe? The firs were planted as a sort of cash crop, like they did over here? And now some bod' on the council wants to reap his pittance and then have the whole area smothered in wood chips and have a bench parked there with a plaque honering himself?

What ever the case; I hear people talking here. The older, wiser men reckon planting this Sitka Spruce is a sell off of the family silver par exallance. Ye make a quick and tidy profit in ye own time. And leave the land ruined and worthless for all time after.

I think the council have just bought some new kit and are having a play, Or the lunatics have been let loose!!!!

There is no value in english softwoods nowadays, Say £15 per ton from the roadside. Its cheaper to get it from china LOL

Theres no point asking a council worker whats going on as most dont know there arses from there elbows,( no offence meant to some but to the others offence meant, You know who you are).

If you get on to your local planning/tree office they will tell you whats going on with the site and you should be able to voice your concerns or take action to stop works, In the interest of habitat, bio diversity etc etc. Nesting birds should be taken into consideration as we are now in nesting season and certain types of conifers provide excellent nesting habitat for birds. Most tree works slow down this time of year due to this fact and most local authoritys and large tree firms only permit to doing essential works. Get on the phone and give them some grief.
