Excellent stuff Missie, you'll have a good day with Tiverton they still do things properly.

 

Staghounds are basically Foxhounds they will go to each others kennels to breed but there are only three packs of Staghounds and two packs of Buckhounds in the area so there isn't a huge gene pool if you kept breeding from just staghunting hounds so the packs will also go to Foxhound kennels for the right type too.

The staghound packs and presumably the buckhound packs also, use two hounds to hunt the deer FJager so it is as close to proper hunting as possible although I was told on saturday by an old boy with the D&S that its not the same anymore, I wish now that i'd made a decision to go pre ban but hindsight is a wonderful thing! My knowledge is still only very basic on the subject.

 

I was pleasantly suprised by the friendliness of both packs, everyone was very welcoming to myself and Tiegan but I suspect it helped that my dad is a fairly regular follower of both packs.

 

We did hear that the Tiverton have had a better season that the D&S but as the D&S hounds have had cough its not too suprising. I thoroughly enjoyed my first day out with staghounds, Tiegan needs a bit more convincing I think but I can't wait to go back and try my hand at following on horseback too!
