I'm wanting to get a few bantams to sit on some partridge eggs and teach the young a bit of sense, just wondering what breed would be best for this. I have quite a few bird killing cats about the place which i can't do anything about so they'll need to be a bit fiesty, but small enough for the job in hand. Any ideas on what would be the best breed for this would be appreciated.

I have some Silkie Bantams here mate which sit Lovely when they're Broody! mind you most do but the silkies are lovely and will die on the eggs if you don't lift them off now and again to feed and drink...

If You have a Incubator I'll send you some fertile eggs and you can hatch some out, the problem is they won't be much good this year .

This is a link I found on them which might be of some help...

Most bantams or crosses will do. But some large fowl will sit well to, and ofcourse, you can put many more eggs under a larger breed. Some of my faves are:

Large fowl:

English game

Orpington- big birds, would cover loads of partridge eggs!

Wyandotte

Silkie

Bantams:

Pekin

Silkie

Wyandotte

Australorp

Hope this helps

Edited to ask where abouts are you, if your local I could lend or sell you something suitable.

Wow :) Many thanks for the offers and information... ideally I would like to get things going this year. There's a few localish places i might be able to get some adult birds, so i'll be having a look in the next week or so, once i've sorted the accomodation. Thanks again for the offers.

Of the bantams that I had (unfortunately now the past tense as a neighbours' Lakeland popped round and has left me with only one Welsummer  ) the Wyandottes were the most broody. One would go berserk at me every time I turfed her off the others' eggs. She got quite bad at defending "her" nest and would try to fight her way in if I locked another bantam into the box to lay its egg. I've never had Silkies but have heard that they make particularly good broodies.
