Guest little_lloyd
Well my spring trap line is in full swing,, Found a nice spot to put a 116 magnum yesterday,, Went home for lunch, was popping back through with the gun later that day and Squigga one had fell to the grippa Re set,, Had another this morning,, This looks like a very promising spot. Both where wet does Squigs,, So i wont have any of thier litters to thin out in a few weeks Now on to the magpies,,Been removing them all week from the lake and cowbrake woodland,, But the pair that where reluctent to enter last night fell to the tricks,, So thats seven from the lower end of my ground,, Will be moving the larson on again this afternoon. Squidgga Gets a headache,, Grippa style Full house, with the larson The 'grippa' spot Thats Six Magpies and four greys this week,, no doubt more as the week goes and all. Quote Link to post

wabbithunter_15 0
how does the bird learn to drink from the bottle? Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
how does the bird learn to drink from the bottle? I dont know,, But it does. Anyway popped back out to check three pidgeon traps i set while i was about earleir,, Nothing in One, or two but got to three and the flapping i could here round the corner indicated i had a capture,, Anyway heres a picture. The traps i use for this are the same as the more oldskool way of catching up pheasants,,Just made a bit smaller,, Great way of catching a few woodies for the pot,, Just springle grain around and put a nice attractive clump behind the treadle,, So the pidgeon has to stand on the hazel bender to set the trap of. john b 38
LL Bloody well done on that trap mate. You've made an excellent job of making that right down to the trigger. Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
LL Bloody well done on that trap mate. You've made an excellent job of making that right down to the trigger. Ive made five this week,, and more agian tommorow evening,, They are most effective under bird tables when the pidgeons are taking all the food on the floor,, i took them in numbers last year in my garden,, they where damaging the vegtable garden and its the only method i had But we use them on the shooting ground for pidgeons and they are effective,, Im going to set one up with a fake nest and try to catch a few magpies while my larson has to get round the four hundred acres Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Excellent hazel trap, I will be making a few of these myself over the weekend, using 1"X3/4" laths. When catching pheasants for breeding we used to catch no end of woody's. Great trap and simple to build/use. I wnder if a maggy would use it? Don't see why not! Well done! H Quote Link to post

Guest little_lloyd
how do you make the trigger? Bit of Hazel or holly mate,, And bend it to fit in the cage These litle traps are cheap and easy to make, Sit down in your wood for a few hours and you can knock up quite alot. Ive only caught pidgeons in them and its all i use them for,, Sit one under a birdtable where the birds are eating the stuff falling of the table and you will pick up alot. Will test it for use on magpies when i have the time. Quote Link to post

Yes those sticks are holding the trap up.,, As soon as something stands on the trealde, the cage will fall down and youll have a traped birdie. By the way that body grip is working a treat i have had six squirrels in five days. Quote Link to post
